CNRP leader Sam Rainsy (L) shakes hand with Prime Minister Hun Sen during their meeting on September 16, 2013

PHNOM PENH (The Cambodia Herald) -- Japan urged the ruling Cambodian People’s Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party to resume talks to end chronic political post-election deadlock.

“Japan encourages once again all parties to refrain from violence and resolve the issue in a peaceful manner. Japan also strongly hopes that the dialogue between the ruling and opposition parties regarding the election results in July last year will resume in a timely manner, toward an early normalization of the situation”, said the Press Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan in a statement released yesterday.

The Press Secretary said Japan is deeply concerned about the situation in Cambodia where security forces and demonstrators clashed in the course of labor disputes on January 3, leading to a number of deaths and injuries, adding that Japan continues to pay close attention to the situation in Cambodia, including from the perspective of ensuring the safety of Japanese companies and nationals.

Bloody clashes broke out last week between the striking workers and the anti-riot police, killing at least five people and injuring 37 others.

Various international bodies have asked both sides to resume talking. Mr. Hun Sen has asked the other side to talk. Rainsy was the one who cut the scheduled talk then continue to refuse to talk. Instead he continued to urge the poor people to go on the streets to cause more troubles for him.

The poor Cambodians people have been the ones who suffered, beaten, bled, died. Rainsy has not even had a scratch.
