Abidjan, October 19, 2012

SAM RAINSY'S SCHEDULE: FIVE CONTINENTS IN FIVE WEEKS

Opposition leader Sam Rainsy arrived yesterday in Abidjan (Ivory Coast) to attend the 58th Congress of Liberal International (LI) www.liberal-international.org in his capacity as Chair of the Council of Asian Liberals and Democrats (CALD), a grouping of ten political parties from ten Asian countries closely associated with LI www.cald.org. The Sam Rainsy Party (SRP) is also a full member of LI.

Last night, Sam Rainsy took part in a welcoming dinner offered at the presidential palace by President Alassane Ouattara and also attended by Senegal President Macky Sall representing his country's ruling
party at the LI Congress. This morning, the two African presidents presided over the LI Congress opening ceremony.

On October 22, Sam Rainsy will be in Quebec City (Canada) to take part in the 127th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). He will notably testify before the IPU Committee on the human rights of
parliamentarians.

Last month Sam Rainsy met with government officials and members of parliament in France, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands where he was received by Dutch Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal (the ruling party in the Netherlands "VVD" is also affiliated with LI).

Later in September Sam Rainsy visited the Philippines and Indonesia.

Earler this month the opposition leader spent ten days in Australia and New Zealand.

By next week, with his scheduled visit to Canada and the US, Sam Rainsy will have travelled in several countries in Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and America over a five-week period.

National parliaments in a number of the visited countries as well as the European Parliament have adopted, or are expected to adopt, resolutions on Cambodia calling for the implementation of the UN Special Rapporteur Surya Subedi's recommendations for free, fair and inclusive elections in 2013.
