PHNOM PENH - Sam Rainsy, the exiled leader of Cambodia’s opposition, has
written the prime minister seeking permission to return to the country
to mourn the passing of the former king, “and see his face for the last
time.”
Sam Rainsy is facing at least 10 years imprisonment if he returns to
Cambodia, on charges related to destroying border markers near Vietnam
in 2009.
He has claimed the charges against him are political and that a
political solution will be possible for his return ahead of 2013
elections. Prime Minister Hun Sen has said otherwise.
In his Oct. 17 letter to Hun Sen, Sam Rainsy said he should be allowed
to return in the spirit of reconciliation and national unity in the wake
of Sihanouk’s passing.
“He can come as he wants,” government spokesman Khieu Kanharith told VOA
Khmer Thursday. “But we cannot give any orders to the court.”
Political analyst Chea Vannath told VOA Khmer that the administration
should consider amnesty for convicted people in exile, such as Sam
Rainsy.

Its would be nice if King Sihanmoni pardon The honorable Sir Sam Rainsy as his requested above just to see the face of the deceased Sdach Sinhanuk for the last time.Sdach Sihanmoni should bring all politicians prisoners like Mam Sonondo or the victims of land eviction khmers ladies or the honorable Sam Rainsy back home free of charge.This a time of mourning and reconciliation not division nor persecution,all childrents deserve to see the father when he pass away it doesn't matter what circumstances or hated due to their personal differences or personal's conflicts because we all khmers' childrents.Oh,come on Cpp Hun sen losen up your personal's revenges for the sake of unity and reconciliation of all khmers.

It's time to reconcile to mourn the death of Sihanouk. Hun Sen and Sam Rainsy should let bygones be bygones and unite to work together for the betterment of Cambodia. This is a time for unity, not for division.
For hun sen, there is no reconciliation. The only way Mr. Sam Rainsy can enter Cambodia is when his party takes control of the country. If he goes to Cambodia, he might as well walks into Prey Sar for 20 years to life.
if that is the case, people need to get rid of Hen Sen, then.
