Koh Kong court closes case involving activist's murder

PHNOM PENH (Cambodia Herald) - Koh Kong Provincial Court says it has closed a case involving the murder of an environmental activist but that the murderer's killer would appear in court Thursday.

Chut Wutty, head of the Natural Resources Protection Organization, was shot dead in April in Bak Klong commune in Koh Kong's Mondol Seima district. He was accompanying two journalists to observe illegal logging activities.

The activist's assailant, identified as military policeman In Rathana, subsequently died in a scuffle with a man called Ran Borath.

"The court will hear the case of Ran Borath on Thursday," Koh Kong Prosecutor Srey Mak Ny told Cambodia Express News, an affiliate of The Cambodia Herald. "Chut Wutty’s case is closed because his killer is dead."

In Kong Chit, a human rights activist from Cambodian League for the Promotion and Defense of Human Rights, said Ran Borath had been detained for unintentional murder.

Seven witnesses including the two Cambodia Daily journalists have been questioned over the case, he said.

Phorn Bopha, one of the two journalists, said she had no plans to return to the Koh Kong court at this stage as she had not been summoned. The other journalist, a Canadian, has since left Cambodia.

Widow Sam Chanthy said she was disappointed that her late husband’s case was closed. "I have new evidence in the case but I didn’t get a chance to reveal such evidence because I wasn’t at the court," she said.

Why closed the case without any prosecution of the thug name Ran Borath? Ran Borath killed both of these victims Chut Vuthy and In Ratana,no doubt! This article said the case closed because of the killer is death.Who is death? The killer was Ran Borath not In Ratana.Whatta heck is wrong with your incompetence investigators and bias justice system corrupted judge? Look folks! what's goes around come around, karma will gets you all one day.
