National Assembly approves law for workers going to Qatar

PHNOM PENH, 10th August 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - The National Assembly unanimously approved Friday a law on the control and use of manual labor in Qatar.

Labor Minister Vong Soth said the law had been agreed to by heads of government and that the two countries had worked together for Cambodian workers to work legally in Qatar.

He said potential workers needed to know "what the job market looks like there, and what requirements they need  compared with those of neighboring countries."

While the climate and customs of the oil-rich Gulf state are very different from Cambodia, he said salaries for skilled workers were higher than in neighboring countries.

Ho Naun, who chairs the National Assembly Commission on Health, Social Affairs, Youth, Vocational Training and Women's Affairs, said the law would make it easier to address challenges related to migrant workers.

Opposition Sam Rainsy Party spokesman Yim Sovan asked Cambodian ambassadors to protect workers from being abused.

Cheam Yeap, chairman of the National Assembly Commission for Economy, Banking and Finance, said the government had protected workers and helped created many garment factories offering jobs to a half of million people.

He appealed to the Ministry of Labor to offer youth training for jobs in Cambodia and abroad.

Let Khmer muslim girls who knew some arabic culture test
the water first. Khmer main stream girls should stay home,
learn to be a good wife and good mother !
Put the whole responsibility to Khmer guys ! May be
they themselves become smarter, know how to count to
ten without resorting to reuse the word Pram too soon !
Oh yes , I have my own Khmer words for six to nine ! If
you wanted to know just ask honey ! or tell your Royal
Academy of Language to develop them. As you know the
French has different words from one to sexteen.
But then quatre vingts dix neuf sounded dumb to me too !

I hope they go to work in the factories, not as maids at the Muslim homes. If they work as maids, they will get abuses more than in Malaysia.

Quatar is not different as other Muslim countries.
The problem are, the Khmer people don't have the same way of life as the Qatari. Also not all Qatarie understand our culture.

Quatar is super rich country on the planet. Its Muslim country rules by the smartest and educated king,it should be alright, all its citizens don't pay taxes, free health care and education for all its citizens from born until death.

Quatar is not Malaysia,Indonesia,or Thailand. But I am against sending women/girls to any county, men are ok.Langsuges bearer and culture bearer are the problems that make worry the most.Quatar not Chinese in Malaysia,Qatar's citizens lives free don't pay any bills, from electric to water or sanitary etc.

Young Khmer professional.
