Hun Sen phone conversation with opposition lawmaker released
PHNOM PENH, 10th August 2012 (Cambodia Herald) - The Office of the Council of Ministers
has released a recorded telephone conversation in 1997 between then
Second Prime Minister Hun Sen and opposition lawmaker Son Chhay.
In
the conversation, said to be on October 17, the Sam Rainsy Party
lawmaker is heard talking about the situation outside Cambodia after
armed clashes in July between the Cambodian's People's Party and its
royalist coalition partner Funcinpec.
Son Chhay is also heard
telling Hun Sen about relations between Funcinpec and the Sam Rainsy
Party after the fighting, which occurred on July 5 and 6.
The
uploading of the conversation came after Hun Sen mentioned it during an
address to the National Assembly on Thursday. He said Son Chhay had
agreed to be his spy and accept $10,000 to report on events after the
clash.
Hun Sen said he considered Son Chhay a godbrother who
persuaded the CPP in 1997 to resist a takeover of Funcinpec by Nhiek Bun
Chhay, Khan Savoeun and Hor Sok.
Son Chhay told reporters that he considered Hun Sen’s charge as defamatory.

Weather Son Chhay is a spy or not. You have to understand the dirty politic of Cambodia. He had to make a compromise which he already made clear in 2006. In no way was he betraying his country. Who would know if Rannaridh could do any better since his party is full of corruption too. Especially positions are handed out to family and friends even to those that are even qualified. I don't understand Hun Sen's purpose.

Son Chhay told me that he accepted the $10,000 but the money was not a bribery, the money was paid to all MPs who stayed behind in Cambodia after the 1997 coup - sort of a parliamentary allowance. Son Chhay escaped to Thailand but returned just before the political settlement that allowed Ranariddh and all his supporters to return back to Cambodia. If other people were paid, why then Hun Sen only single out Son Chhay. Is it because he can't buy Son Chhay out?
Why only the one who accepted the money was seen as immoral. What about the one who paid the money like Hun Sen? In the West, both the one who accepted the bribe and the one who paid the bribe are equally guilty and both will go to jail. So, if Son Chhay goes to jail, Hun Sen must also go to jail.
Hun Sen is is so low and so uneducated. He thinks releasing an audio will get the Khmer around the country and around the world to be on his side.
This uneducated Vietnamese installed of 32 years thinks releasing this audio will change the fact, that Khmer land was conceded to Vietnam illegally.
SRP was fined for exposing corruption by releasing a hidden audio. Son Chaay must now file a court order against this uneducated farmer for illegal recording as the CPP had done.
