Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen said on Thursday that Cambodia had lost land to Vietnam in previous regimes, not under his 27-year leadership. [Hun Sen signed away Cambodian territories to Vietnam in 4 treaties].

"Cambodia has lost rights to demand Kampuchea Krom territory, Trol island and other islands from Vietnam because Cambodia's map that was housed at the United Nations. The former King Norodom Sihanouk kept the map at the United Nations in 1964," he said at the National Assembly's session that was live broadcast through 13 local TV channels and 101 radio stations.

His clarification was made at the request of Sam Rainsy Party, the country's main opposition party.

The opposition party has subsequently accused the current government of national betrayal for ceding land to Vietnam.

Hun Sen said that currently, Cambodia has been using the map, kept at the UN by the former King in 1964, to negotiate with Vietnam. [If so, why Hun Sen ordered Var Kimhong to draw a new map with Vietnam?]

"You (the opposition party) verbally attack me on border issues with Vietnam, it means that you beat former King Norodom Sihanouk, " he said, adding that "his government just followed the legacy of former King Norodom Sihanouk."

However, the premier said, one should not blame former King Norodom Sihanouk for losing rights to demand land from Vietnam because there is no someone else who is more patriotic than the former king.

He said Cambodia's boundaries are very complicated because of chronic wars in the past.

In his 5-hour remarks, he also stressed that Cambodia has been doing all its best to defend sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Cambodia shares 1,270 kilometers of border with Vietnam to the east. To date, 76 percent, or 285 border poles of the total 375 poles, has been demarcated, he said.

He wasn't blaming. He was telling history because some people didn't know the story line since the real history was manipulated for political interest. If anyone was carefully listening, one will understand well, IT WAS NOT A BLAME!
