Take in the sights of Cambodia

By Kathleen Hubert

Travelling overseas especially to a place in South Asia, can be a very unique yet liberating experience. Cambodia is one of those places. When you stay in Cambodia, make sure you take your rest spot at Lahaina hotels where you are close to some awesome main attractions. Take in the full culture and tourist attractions that this country has to offer!

The thing about Cambodia is there are a bunch of different provinces to visit for different things such as museums, history, attractions, and more. One place I highly recommend to visit is Phnom Penh. This is an incredible place that features the Royal Palace. After the Royal Palace was located in Angkor since the 15th century, it moved around a lot but had a permanent stay in Phnom Penh as of 1866. It remains a great place to visit for historical purposes. The interesting about this is that it is still in use today by the present king. It's cost effective as well only running about 6-7 dollars for a near full visit through the different shrines and buildings!

If you really want to get into some ancient history, Angkor Wat is the move! Up until the 19th century, the temple was lost. However, with the discovery of the temple, a lot of ancient artifacts as well as interesting buildings came about that explained a lot of the ancient history of Cambodia. If you want to take a tour of the building, you can actually schedule set times where you avoid the annoying, touristy kind of crowds. The shrine has been around since the 12th century, and now it's more so used as Buddhist shrine. The incredible thing about this particular place is there are very few damages, and it's structure has kept together through centuries of time!

In Thailand and Cambodia, the elephant is a very sacred animal. They are viewed as intelligent and noble. One thing you should try out in Cambodia as a nice little tourist attraction is riding an elephant. There are different places where you are able to enjoy this activity. Even when you go visit some of the more reputable zoos such as the one in Mekong Island, they allow for an elephant ride to give you a look into the way Cambodians have lived for years. Get a sense of a royalty as well as a great end of the day by basking in the sunset while enjoying a rare treat as you head back to Lahaina hotels.

An unorthodox thing you can do in Cambodia is fire high impact machinery. For example, in the countryside where you have a lot of room, you can actual fire off rocket launchers. This might be a bit pricey if you don't quite have the funds, but it is definitely an interesting experience. Machine guns may also be fired.
