THE country's leading low-cost carrier (LCC), Cebu Pacific Air
recently made its maiden flight last April 19 from Manila to Siem Reap
in Cambodia.
The first aircraft of CEB left the NAIA Terminal 3 with a full load
of passengers to experience the entry of the Philippines to Siem Reap.
On board were eighty-one teachers of a catholic school Batangas for a
leisure travel to see the sights of Siem Reap. Along with the maiden
flight were leisure travelers, travel writers and airline officials with
no less than Cambodia's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to
the Philippines, Hos Sereythonh, Msc, leading the inaugural rites at
the NAIA3 and joining the maiden flight to Siem Reap, as well.
Reaching
Siem Reap for just more than two hours of fun flight on Cebu Pacific
Air, the warm welcome by the officials of Cambodia was a touching moment
for the Philippines to now see the Cambodian way of hospitality plus
the tourism potentials of the place.
Cambodian Airports has developed and managed this international
airport of Siem Reap, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor
archaeological park. Since 1995, the people behind Cambodia Airports
have devoted their energy, dedication, expertise and creativity to build
the network of international airports that has contributed to drive the
country's opportunities by facilitating the exchange of goods, services
and the connection of people and cultures.
It as in 1995 that the Royal Government of Cambodia entrusted
Cambodia Airports (formerly SCA or Societe Concessionanaire de
l'Aeroport until the company's rebranding in 2011) with the concession
of Phnom Pen Airport. The Royal Government of Cambodia implemented in
1998 the "Open Sky" policy, opening Siem Reap Airport to international
flights. By 2005, Siem Reap International Airport celebrated the
crossing of the 1-million passenger mark a year; ISO certification of
PPIA's IT, airport pass, maintenance and terminal departments.
Over 95% of Siem Reap the International Airport's traffic consists of
tourists visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor temples.
Concurrently, Cambodia Airports is finalizing the master plan for the
ultimate development phase for the coming two decades. To address the
expansion program planned to be completed in 2025, over US$380 million
will be invested. This year will definitely be a turning point year.
