AKP Phnom Penh, May 08, 2012 - Cambodian journalists from various media institutions were invited last Friday to visit U.S. Seventh Fleet’s USS Blue Ridge for their news coverage, particularly to show the good relationship between the U.S.-Cambodia’s navies.

The USS Blue Ridge’s visit to Cambodia from April 30 to May 4 is aimed to further strengthen the relations and cooperation and to prepare the 2012 Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise between the two countries.

On May 5, the Cambodian journalists also visited the USNS Safeguard, which docked at Cambodia’s seaport from Apr. 30 to May 5 for a routine joint exercise with Cambodia.

Ten Cambodian naval forces from Ream Sea Naval base participated in the joint exercise with 20-U.S. naval personnel in maritime securing operation and navigation maintenance.

This was the sixth joint exercise between USNS Safeguard and Cambodian navies in the past five years.

The USNS Safeguard will dock at Cambodia’s seaport from two to three times per year for training and joint exercise, particularly to strengthen the bilateral relations and cooperation between the U.S.-Cambodia’s navies.

Cambodian navy has been conducted the joint exercise with France, Australia, Thailand, and Vietnam to further improve and exchange the knowledge and experience. By CHEA Vannak
