PHNOM PENH, 22 May 2012 (Cambodia Herald) – Senior officials of the ASEAN Regional
Forum (ARF) will hold a three-day meeting in Phnom Penh from Thursday,
officials said.
An official at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said the meeting would prepare for July’s ASEAN Regional Forum, to be attended by 27 countries.
Founded in 1994, the ARF aims to foster dialogue and consultations on political and security issues of common interest and concern. It also aims to make significant contributions to efforts towards confidence-building and preventive diplomacy in the Asia-Pacific region.

At their tenth meeting in Phnom Penh in 2003, ARF ministers declared that the forum had attained "a record of achievements that have contributed to the maintenance of peace, security and cooperation in the region."
The ministers noted ARF's usefulness for multilateral and bilateral dialogues and consultations as well as creating effective principles for dialogue and cooperation.
Current participants in the ARF are Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Indonesia, Japan, North Korea, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Mongolia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor Leste, United States and Vietnam.
