A fifth official with close links to Senate President Chea Sim was arrested yesterday on accusations of forgery during an alleged attempt to flee the country.

Spokesman for the national military police Kheng Tito said Chea Sim’s chief of protocol, Kunthea Borey, was arrested in Koh Kong province as she attempted to exit the country and was then flown to Phnom Penh for questioning.

“She was arrested over the production of false documents. She was arrested based on a warrant for arrest from the Phnom Penh Municipal Court’s prosecutor,” he said yesterday.

Kheng Tito declined to provide details of the allegations against Kunthea Borey but said the arrest was probably made based on answers from the chief of Chea Sim’s bodyguard unit, Chhoeun Chanthan, who was arrested last month.

He was charged with forging and using public documents as well as illegal possession of weapons and illegally issuing weapon licences on August 16. At the time of his arrest, military police said they had confiscated 12 guns and 1,420 bullets during a raid on his property.

In addition, two former Chea Sim advisers – Police Lieutenant General Chan Kosal, 60, and former Cabinet member Khieu Bora, 50 – were arrested on Friday on accusations of forgery, according to local media reports.

Lieutenant General Ponlork Ho, 58, also a former adviser, was reportedly arrested on Sunday on similar charges.

Mom Sarin, Chea Sim's cabinet chief, Chiv Keng, president of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, and Yeth Chakriya, chief prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court, could not be reached for comment yesterday. Kunthea Borey has been detained for questioning at the military police headquarters in Phnom Penh, Kheng Tito said.

With a leader like Hun sen all Cambodians can be happy that their human rights do not exsist. I suggest Camodians follow the example of the Thai UDD red shirts will similar principals, otherwise your country will always be downtrodden y corrupt politicians and a total disregard to basic human rights.

This is a good thing for Cambodia, it is time for Gov. to take out the trash.

I believe it is approved by Chea Sim.

Base on the US report, Hun Sen only control millitary and the cabinet, every Gov. level below that, they are Chea Sim loyalist. Most of the corruption occure in this level and it effects every Cambodian dayly life.

It will get better.

This is the beginning of the purges similar to the purges carried out by Pol Pot from 1977-1979 that brought down the Khmer Rouge regime. From 1977 to 1979, due to his paranoia, Pol Pot began to kill and arrest all KR cadres he suspected of plotting against him. Now, Hun sen is doing the same because he is so paranoid that the Chea Sim faction is plotting against him. Hun Sen had begun to weaken the Chea Sim faction slowly since the arrests of Sin Sen, Sing Song and others in 1994. Later on, all Chea Sim's loyalists were purged one by one, from the sacking of Ke Kim Yan in 2009 and the arrests of Hun Hean, Moek Dara, Chhoeun Chanthan and now Pheng Kunthea Borey.

This is nothing to do with fraud, but rather it is a pretext Hun Sen used to purge Chea Sim's loyalists. Next, it will be the judges, who were mostly Chea Sim's loyalists etc. Finally, Sar Kheng, Say Chhum, the CPP party secretary general, who were all Chea Sim's brothers-in-law and then Chea Sim himself will be purged- arrested and sent to jail. Just wait and see. The Chea Sim-Sar Kheng faction is finished. Finito!
